The stadium debate
Civic or Bruce?
Canberra Airport consortium · One Regatta Place, Civic
Canberra Airport's owners, led by CEO Stephen Byron, are in talks with the Catholic Archdiocese about the Archbishop's House site at One Regatta Place in Civic for a new city stadium: 25,000 for sport, 35,000 for concerts. Byron pointed to big acts like the Foo Fighters heading to Newcastle instead of here.
The case for Civic: a lakeside venue in the middle of town that's built to pull the big tours, with the city's bars and restaurants right on the doorstep. The case for Bruce: the ACT Government still backs a new stadium there, it's the established sport and events precinct, and the Civic site needs National Capital Authority approval plus the church agreeing to sell.
The Naughty List
Exhibit A for the stadium crowd: two more 2027 tours that found free days between Sydney and Melbourne but no Canberra date.
Brooks & Dunn
Neon Moon Tour · Sydney and Melbourne · March 2027
The country duo's first Australian shows since 2009: CMC Rocks QLD, then Sydney's Afterpay Arena and Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena with Ashley McBryde and Mack Geiger. Two clear days on the drive south and the closest they get to the ACT is Sydney.
