Hot take: Amy Shark v Kylie
The grand final pre-game ratings are in
NRL grand final pre-game · Amy Shark and friends · 2.25 million viewers
OzTAM figures put the NRL pre-game show, led by Amy Shark with members of The Screaming Jets, Grinspoon and more, at an average of 2.25 million viewers. Kylie Minogue's AFL grand final show drew 1.86 million. Sports journalist Buzz Rothfield posted the numbers and the replies turned into a footy code war.
One side says an Aussie lineup with real heart beat a global superstar fair and square. The other side says it is apples and oranges: a Sunday night couch audience against a Saturday afternoon of BBQs and pub screens, and the AFL grand final itself still won the night overall (4.52 million to 4.29 million).
